Emperors of Entrepreneurship - The Story of Srinivas Kotni

Name: Srinivas Kotni
Who’s he: Advocate & Company Secretary
His Leadership Mantra:  Leadership by example and relationship oriented approach
How he executes: By following the goals passionately, by always striving for quality and timely delivery and by ensuring empathy and human values which are the underlying drivers.
Biggest challenge faced: Introduction of GST!! Being trade lawyers for the last 17 years the focus has always been on trade and indirect taxation laws. When GST was introduced, the entire indirect tax litigation almost came to a stand still, as the government and the department was not issuing show cause notices, there have been no raids, audits and measures for recovery. . It meant our core practice area has faced a sudden roadblock. In the face of acute circumstantial adversity, instead of getting overawed by the situation, we carefully re-calibrated our approach and developed our other areas of practice like insolvency and bankruptcy, corporate commercial practice, intellectual property rights, general commercial litigation, alternative dispute resolution and also consulting practice in the regulatory and compliance areas. This helped us to pass through the unforeseen situation unscathed, though both our top and bottom lines were hit due to the above developments. Personally I also worked on an innovative comic book project with the title “Adventures of the GST Man” which has been well received so far. Thus the gap was filled by the said academic pursuit. Now we expect an exodus of GST matters once the implementation phase of GST comes to an end. Hopefully our performance would increase manifold with the new practice areas also having been built.
